Lip Chemical Peels

The skin on your face isn’t the only place destined to be affected by the hands of time. Unfortunately, the lips aren’t immune to the effects of aging, and like the skin on the face, the lips can fall victim to lines, wrinkles, and sunspots too. Thankfully, the power of a good chemical peel can make a difference between lackluster and luscious lips in just a few treatments.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels accelerate the rate at which the skin sheds.

They are a go-to solution for removing unwanted pigment while smoothing the skin’s texture and tone and refreshing the skin via exfoliation to lift away dead skin cells from the surface.

Lip exfoliating products can help eliminate dead skin from the lips, but if you really want to send fine lines, wrinkles, and stubborn spots packing, there’s nothing quite like a lip peel. This chemical peel treatment works wonders for those experiencing unwanted hyperpigmentation on the lips, but depending on how stubborn and severe your discoloration determines which peel is best for you.

How Does a Lip Peel Work?

Just like chemical peels used on the face, lip peels function similarly.

Most rely on exfoliating acids to safely dissolve the top layer of dead skin from the lips, where discoloration also lives. Unlike abrasive exfoliating lip scrubs, which flake away dead skin cells, lip peels can also improve the health and appearance of the lips since they also help promote cell turnover and stimulate collagen production while brightening the skin.

Different peeling agents do different things. For example, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) are larger molecularly, so they don’t exfoliate too deeply. Instead, AHAs can help pull moisture into the lips for added hydration and moisturize lips. But if hyperpigmentation is more of an issue, acids that improve the skin tone, like lactic acid and even bleaching creams, can help.

Finding the Right Lip Peel For You

Charette Cosmetics offers two types of chemical peels: our Level I Chemical Peel and the Level II MelanX Chemical Peel. While both options are effective, each targets various concerns to target relentless pigment and other age-related concerns.

The Chemical Peel Level I is a gentle yet powerful medical-grade chemical peel for treating lip lines and wrinkles, age and sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and overall skin health. The Level II MelanX Chemical Peel is a more powerful and intense medical-grade chemical peel for treating more stubborn and severe dark spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles. This kit comes with a 20-25 day post-care skincare kit that continues lifting pigment off the face, including a prescription-strength brightening cream, retinol serum, a soothing balm, and a cleanser. Please keep in mind that you must wear a red mask for 12 hours, so plan time accordingly.

MelanX is a deep chemical peel that is a go-to treatment for lifting pigmentation off the skin to even out the skin’s tone and reveal fresh, new skin. This chemical peel is available in-office and as an at-home kit that we can ship to you! If brighter, more evenly toned lips are what you want to achieve, the Melanx Peel can help you achieve this. Our MelanX is the most advanced chemical peel and skin-brightening system on the market.
Since MelanX Peel is not a quick peel and requires time to see the results, which can take up to 30 days, you must devote the necessary time to completing all steps of the peel.

After completing the full protocol, the skin will emerge brighter, fresher, smoother, and more evenly toned. Most patients see up to 50 to 70 percent improvement after just one treatment and some report 100 percent improvement. Some patients require maintenance peels.
Some fans of lip chemical peels also like the subtle volumizing effect that can be achieved from the treatment without needing dermal fillers. While it’s not the same result in terms of the size and shape of what you can achieve with fillers, rejuvenating the lip tissue can lend a more defined and voluminous effect.

What Does a Chemical Peel On My Lips Feel Like?

Most chemical peels don’t feel like much on the skin or the lips, but the actives in the peel determine what effect they will have on the skin of the lips. The lighter the peel, the less penetration and sensation it produces on the skin. The deeper the peel, the more tingling you may feel on the lips and the surrounding skin.

It’s normal to experience a slight tingling, sting, or skin warmth while the chemical peel is on the lips. However, once the neutralizer deactivates the peel (it “turns it off”), any sensation you feel will quickly diminish. After the peel, the skin may feel dry or tight, continuing for a few days post-treatment. The peeling process does not hurt, but it is essential not to pick at the exfoliating skin and let it shed on its own.
