Plasma Pen

With age comes various changes to the skin and our facial features. Fine lines, wrinkles, and textural changes are among the more common ones, but volume loss also happens, making a face look older and more weathered.

The Plasma Pen is one of the world’s most advanced non-invasive options to lift, tighten, and rejuvenate the skin without the downtime associated with other treatments and procedures. It also works to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin and brighten up dull-looking skin.

Body

The Plasma Pen uses plasma energy (different from plasma drawn from your blood and used in treatments like PRP) to safely and gently regenerate the skin via targeted heat delivered deep into the skin.

The Plasma Pen has quickly gained popularity as a skin-rejuvenating treatment because of the dramatic effects it produces. Stimulating collagen deep within the skin encourages a smoother texture with fewer lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.

What Is A Plasma Pen?

A Plasma Pen is a small handheld device with needle tips that produce nitrogen plasma gas.

The plasma gas is delivered to the skin and micro-injuries. These micro-injuries stimulate collagen production and leave behind a uniform pattern of pin-sized dots on the skin. An increase in collagen leads to smoother, healthier, tighter, and plumper-looking skin.

The pen also has an ablative component, which allows the removal of damaged skin on the surface. Removing dead skin helps enhance the appearance of the skin and the final result.

How Does A Plasma Pen Work?

The Plasma Pen treatment works on the deeper layers of skin to produce collagen to smooth and tighten the skin. It treats the outermost layers of the skin, too.

The handheld device uses fibroblast therapy, targeting and heating fibroblast cells, stimulating collagen and elastin production. An increase in collagen reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. The Plasma Pen treatment also creates a lifting effect on the skin.

By inciting new collagen production deep within the skin, problem areas become noticeably firmer. The Plasma Pen treatment also smoothes the skin’s surface to make the common signs of aging, like wrinkles and lines, less noticeable. It also improves saggy areas for tighter skin.

During the 30-minute treatment (it can sometimes take longer depending on the treatment area), the skin is first numbed (although the treatment is painless, this makes it more comfortable). Then, the Plasma Pen emits energy (without direct contact with the skin) that creates micro-injuries. As the skin heals from these wounds, it generates new collagen, which causes the tissue to contract and tighten.

Fans of the Plasma Pen treatment often call it an excellent alternative to surgical procedures that lift because it tightens the skin without much downtime or general anesthesia. There are also no stitches or scars involved either.

What Are The Treatment Areas?

The nice thing about the Plasma Pen is that it treats a variety of skin- and age-related concerns and tackles multiple treatment areas on the face, including:

  • The eyes help reduce the appearance of bags and discoloration while tightening the skin
  • Lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and mouths, the nasolabial folds, and the 11s between the eyebrows
  • Stretch marks on the body
  • Acne scars on the face
  • Areas where loose skin is evident, like the lower face or the neck
  • Neck and decollete
  • The knees

The Plasma Pen treatment also improves the skin tone and texture. In addition, it also addresses unwanted moles and skin tags.

What Are The Benefits?

Using the Plasma Pen has multiple benefits, like creating new collagen and tightening and firming the skin.

But that’s not all the Plasma Pen does. It also improves the appearance of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, age spots, and sagging skin.

Common FAQs

A Plasma Pen treatment varies in cost from provider to provider, and those in large cities often charge more. The size of the treatment area and the number of sessions needed to obtain your desired results also influence the overall cost.

To determine the cost of your Plasma Pent treatment, call our office to schedule a consultation where we will put a custom program together to correct your current skin concerns.

The number of Plasma Pen treatments necessary depends on the area of treatment, the condition of the skin, and what you are trying to achieve. For example, those with more mature skin and more laxity typically require more sessions than younger skin. In addition, certain areas, like the eyes, only need one session, whereas more extensive areas, like the chest, may require two or more sessions.

Plasma Pen treatments are ideal for those who want tighter-looking skin without the recovery or downtime associated with more aggressive procedures. It’s also beneficial for those with mild to moderate skin texture issues and acne scarring, wrinkles, and fine lines.

The Plasma Pen is a relatively safe treatment. It works best for lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types I, II, and III), so a consultation is best to determine if you are an ideal candidate for the treatment. Darker skin tones are often not compatible with the treatment because scarring is a risk.

After a Plasma Pen treatment, there is some downtime because the skin requires ample time to heal right. However, as the skin begins to heal, it also regenerates itself. Therefore, it's best to give yourself two full weeks to allow the skin to recover fully.

Right after treatment, there will be small, dark pinpoint spots on the skin that will scab and fall off in about one week. There will likely also be some redness and swelling for one to two weeks. After that, it can take upwards of one week for the skin to heal itself and return to normal.

Because the skin needs time to heal, Plasma Pen treatments are not recommended right before a big event or a vacation.

Proper skincare is essential. You'll want to stick to a simple, mild skincare routine while the skin is in recovery mode.

Sunscreen is essential to wear after the treatment so that there is ample protection. It's also crucial not to pick at or exfoliate off the pinpoint scabs–doing so can cause the skin to pigment in those areas.

You can see the initial results of the treatment in the first few weeks, and the full results are visible about three months afterward. The effects of a Plasma Pent treatment can last six months to up to two years, if not longer. The best way to maintain those results is with a good skincare routine and sun avoidance.
