Hair Transplant

Hair loss is a common concern among men and women, affecting approximately 80 million Americans. More than half of men will lose their hair as part of aging. As the natural aging process takes hold, the normal hair growth cycle is affected, leading to thinning hair, hair loss, and, in some patients, baldness. If changes to the thickness and diameter of your hair are bothersome, consider a hair transplant.

Injectables

Gone are the days of hair transplants that leave behind a wide, noticeable scar and fake-looking hairs.

Instead, the modern-day hair transplant procedure provides more natural-looking results and is far less invasive than past surgeries. For those patients who have lost a significant amount of hair, yet other treatments don’t produce satisfactory results, a hair transplant is hands down the most effective solution for permanently regaining what you’ve lost.

Specific devices, like the Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0, can create the most natural-looking hair post-procedure. This advanced procedure is an innovative approach to restoring lost hair without significant downtime or scarring, making it a win-win.

Why Does Hair Loss Happen?

Hair loss can happen for several reasons, and the causes vary among men and women.

In men, changes to how the hair grows often result from genetics. However, for women, hair loss occurs for different reasons. The most blatant offender is shifting hormones. As hormone levels decrease with age, the body goes into menopause, causing hair to grow less thick. Androgenetic alopecia, a female pattern hair loss, is also a common cause. Of course, medical conditions can lead to hair loss too.

What is A Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that takes hair from the back of the scalp (it can also be harvested from other areas, like the sides), known as a donor site, and places them into bald spots.

The surgery has been around for years and, like many other procedures and techniques, has evolved over the years to be more effective with less downtime.

The benefit of a hair transplant is that it can restore areas where hair may be sparse, with existing hair to fill in those areas. The idea behind the procedure is that moving the hair creates the illusion of more hair in a particular area and then helps to regrow hair in a receding spot.

Two main types of hair transplant procedures are commonly performed: follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit excisions (FUE). Both can deliver great results, but each has its pros and cons.

  • FUT (also known as strip harvesting) removes a strip of skin from the back of the scalp, hence the large, long scar. The follicles are removed from the strip and then implanted into areas where hair is sparse.
  • FUE is a more modern technique that harvests individual hairs or small groups of hairs from the back of the scalp. Then, they are transplanted to an area where hair loss is evident. Most hair transplants use the FUE technique because of its numerous advantages.

While both techniques are successful, most patients prefer FUE because of the easier recovery and smaller scar. In addition, those with shorter or lighter-colored hair may not want a lengthy scar on the back of their head. The same goes for men since they tend to wear their hair shorter or even shave their heads.

What is a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 Hair Transplant?

The first generation of more invasive hair transplants was known to leave behind a significant wide and long scar that runs from one side of the back of the scalp to the other. While some patients may see the gain as more valuable than the risk, these older techniques also were more invasive and required significant downtime.

Unlike the original hair transplant procedures, the Venus Concept NeoGraft 2.0 hair transplant utilizes specialized hair restoration equipment that results in a more natural result. The tools available for the physician to use during the procedure evade the standard dead giveaways of a hair transplant. The automated device does all the hair restoration work, like removing the follicles and implanting them.

The revolutionary Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant system is an automated FUE and implantation technology that addresses thinning and balding areas without a linear scar. The comfortable, minimally invasive procedure offers a relatively fast recovery that’s less painful than those of yesteryear. The system was one of the first automated FUE devices in hair restoration, allowing for a smooth and easy transplant while addressing hair loss concerns that bother patients most.

The Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 system harvests single or individual follicular units with easy-to-use controls and advanced tools for a precise transplant. This level of exactness ensures that the hair and hairline will look as natural as possible without the downsides of a more traditional hair transplant. This specialized harvesting technique doesn’t result in a long strip scar. Instead, hundreds of tiny pinpoint scars at the donor site heal well and are barely visible and easier to camouflage into the hair. However, those with extra hair at the back of their scalp yet sparse areas at the hairline, temples or crown see the best results.

How Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 Hair Restoration Surgery Works

Once you have decided that a hair restoration procedure is right for you, your provider will select the donor site where they will remove the hair.

Next, the area will be numbed with local anesthesia, and the hair follicles will be gently and carefully extracted either individually or as small groups. Even though this is done with a device, it must be done precisely and methodically, so it may take a bit longer than conventional practices.

Because the Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant doesn’t use a scalpel, it provides a more natural result and a more comfortable experience from beginning to end. It’s a less invasive procedure than traditional hair transplants because the transplanted hairs are moved in tiny amounts with a handheld harvesting device that doesn’t necessitate stitches. The less trauma the scalp endures, the easier the recovery and the more palatable the procedure overall.

Since the hairs are transplanted as small clusters or groups or individually, the result is less of a pluggy, artificial look (more common with older hair restoration techniques). Instead, the goal is to create the most natural-looking hairline and have the newly transplanted hairs seamlessly blend in with the existing hair. Of course, that’s achievable with a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant.

Other benefits of a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 include the:

  • Optimized workflow for a faster, more comfortable procedure
  • Less trauma
  • Enhanced sterilization
  • Pneumatic motor and smart rive trique technology for precise control in both the extraction and implantation
  • High-quality grafts for patient satisfaction
  • Real-time implantation for a more interactive experience

Most patients can return to their normal activities just a few weeks after the procedure due to its minimal invasiveness and reduced trauma. In addition, by keeping the hair follicles intact during the extraction process, the transplanted hairs are more likely to ‘take’ and survive, which creates better scalp coverage and improved density. However, a hair transplant procedure is not a surefire way to prevent future hair loss, and it can happen. Remember that if your hair loss is genetic, the shedding may continue at a slower rate than before.

Most patients only need to undergo the procedure once. But if one treatment session doesn’t provide the desired results, your provider may recommend a second one.

How Does it Work?

A Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant is an excellent solution for the right candidate, particularly those experiencing male or female pattern hair loss.

While it is beneficial for those with hair loss and some balding, some patients may not be the right fit if they are experiencing symptoms of severe hair loss. Realistic expectations are key since there’s only so much hair that your provider can restore with the treatment, which many patients are more than happy with. While the effects of a hair transplant are more about building confidence and self-esteem than anything, it’s essential to know that there is no medical benefit to a hair transplant.

The procedure can be lengthy depending on the number of hairs transplanted and the case’s complexity. Most transplant procedures take about four to six hours, but others can take up to ten.

During a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant, the donor site is first shaved down so the follicles can be removed more easily. Next, a local anesthetic is applied to the donor and transplantation sites. If you need additional anesthetic, your provider can arrange that. Then, the Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 machine will begin removing the hair follicles individually or as small groups with a special wand that uses pneumatic pressure (suction) for precise removal. Once the follicles are removed, they are delicately placed into the balding parts of the scalp with a special tool that doesn’t require incisions. Finally, a special dressing may be applied to the donor and implantation site to help manage any additional bleeding and encourage healing.

You may feel pressure or discomfort during the procedure as the hair follicles move around. The transplantation and donor sites are also expected to be red, swollen, and tender after the process. Scabbing is also typical and nothing to worry about. It will usually flake off on its own after about one week or so.

Post-procedure, expect the newly transplanted hairs to shed temporarily, which is part of the healing process. Over the next few months, the shedding will subside as the newly transplanted hairs become better rooted in their follicles. Remember that the donor site, where the extra hairs are extracted, may appear sparse or even indented.

Although it is rare, it is vital to be aware of the potential risks and side effects, as it is with all elective cosmetic procedures and treatments. These include:

  • Changes or differences in the transplanted hair
  • Numbness at the donor and transplant sites
  • Complications from anesthesia
  • Infections
  • Bleeding
  • Scars that heal poorly
  • Poor grafts that don’t ‘take’ well

Am I a Good Candidate for a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 Hair Transplant?

The ideal patient for a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant is any man or woman who suffers from androgenic alopecia or pattern hair loss.

More extreme cases may not be suitable for the procedure. There also needs to be ample hair in the donor site to make the procedure successful. Likewise, certain medical conditions may render you unfit for the procedure.

It’s important, during your consultation, that the root cause of your hair loss is identified. Those who suffer from alopecia areata or scarring alopecia and those with certain health conditions may not be good candidates for the procedure.

Most hair restoration patients are in their 40s, 50s, or 60s and feel insecure about hair-related changes.

How much does a Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 Hair Transplant cost?

Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplants vary in cost from provider to provider, and those in large cities often charge more.

COMMON FAQs

A Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant is great for restoring lost hair, but it won't grow new hair. The implanted hairs can help restore density and fullness to the hairline and other areas where sparsity and baldness exist. And the new hairs will act like regular hair and will continue to grow for the rest of their lives. However, the hair growth cycle will not change, and the hair will grow at the same rate and thickness. Plus, any areas that remain sparse or bald after surgery will not sprout new hairs. So it's essential to have realistic expectations about what is possible with the procedure.

The best candidates for the procedure are those who suffer from male or female pattern hair loss, which can be diagnosed during your consultation. Other qualities of a good candidate include the following:

  • Hair loss at the hairline and temples
  • Anyone healthy without high blood pressure, unmanaged diabetes, and issues that affect blood clotting
  • Naturally thick hair fibers
  • Those over 25 years old
  • Hair color that is close to or matches their skin color
  • Hair loss that isn't induced by stress or medication

No, Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplant works for all hair types, colors, and textures.

To keep the transplanted hairs in place and ensure that they are healthy and strong, your provider may instruct you to use special hair care products, shampoos, brushes and other styling aids. In addition, as the transplants heal, keeping them clean and free of infection is essential, so you may be instructed to use a special topical antiseptic product.

Since Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplants are less invasive than other hair grafts, the healing and recovery process is usually shorter. Expect the implants to heal after one week after surgery. You should be able to return to your job the day after surgery and to the gym one to two weeks later. Most patients can return to their regular routine around the two-week mark.

No surgery can be done successfully without a scar, and Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 hair transplants are no exception to the rule. However, any scarring you see will be minimal compared to the old linear scars of previous hair transplants. Pinpoint scarring will result from Venus Concept NEOGraft 2.0 and all other FUE techniques and methods. Over time, these small, pin-sized scars will become lighter and easy to hide under your natural hair. However, shaved hairstyles may make the small scars more noticeable.
