Of all the minimally invasive skin rejuvenating treatments that have earned a permanent spot for themselves on most anti-aging treatment menus, radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatments reign supreme as a popular option for skin rejuvenation. The tried-and-true procedure effectively stimulates collagen for firmer, smoother, more youthful skin. But that’s not all it is capable of doing. RF microneedling treatments also help resolve acne scars and can even reduce some common signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles.
Traditionally, microneedling performed on its own only employs a handheld device with tiny needles. Still, the more modern versions include RF energy, too, for additional skin tightening and other skin benefits. Two of the most popular RF microneedling treatments used today are Cutera’s Secret RF Microneedling and InMode’s Morphesu8 RF Microneedling treatment. Although both employ the exact primary mechanism, the two treatments differ.
Regardless of the treatment’s brand name, Secret RF Microneedling and Morphesu8 work similarly to create micro-injuries by stamping the skin with microneedles. As the skin heals from these safely made injuries below the surface, it stimulates skin remodeling and collagen production to thicken the skin’s surface. Hence, the skin begins to appear younger and more uniform in texture. Ideally, RF microneedling improves skin laxity, wrinkles, enlarged pores, scars, and stretch marks while enhancing its tone and texture.
If you’re deciding between Secret RF Microneedling and Morpheus8, there’s plenty to know about how the two treatments stack up, including how they work and the expected results.
How is Secret RF different from Morpheus8?
Secret RF and Morpheus8 are similar procedures since both are RF microneedling treatments and follow similar protocols. But there’s a lot that separates the two.
Both treatments rely on microneedles and RF energy to heat the dermis and stimulate collagen production, but the main difference between the two treatments is the microneedling device used. Secret RF is a bit more customizable and can be used on virtually every skin condition, although Morpheus8 also has a flexible needle depth penetration.
The skin issues also dictate which treatment is best suited for your needs. For those looking to improve acne scarring and skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, active blemishes, or hyperpigmentation, Morpheus8 is often believed to be the better treatment. Plus, because the device penetrates down to the deeper layers of skin, Morpheus8 has also been considered a better option for eliminating bothersome jowls (one of the only other ways to minimize their appearance is with aesthetic surgery). It can also work on the body to contour areas like the stomach.
Is Morpheus8 the same as Secret RF Microneedling?
The only similarity between Morpheus8 and Secret RF Microneedling is that they are both RF microneedling treatments. Beyond that, there are quite a few differences.
Morpheus8 can penetrate eight millimeters below the skin’s surface, making it the ideal treatment for extreme and deep scarring and acne scarring. However, with Secret RF microneedling, the needles can only penetrate between 0.5 and 3.5 millimeters (this depth is adjustable).
What is the most effective RF microneedling treatment?
Both Secret RF and Morpheus8 RF microneedling are effective for improving the appearance of the skin, but at Charette Cosmetics, we favor Morpheus8. The treatment is exceptional for boosting collagen, which leaves the skin firmer, more youthful, and with a natural radiant glow. Patients undergoing Morpheus8 treatments are generally pleased with their results and say that their skin looks healthier, more supple, and has a vibrant natural glow. There’s also a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, pores, and blemishes. Plus, with Morpehus8, improvements in skin laxity and jowling are noticeable, which helps create that ‘snatched jawline’ everyone is after these days.
Is one treatment better for candidates than the other?
Choosing between Secret RF and Morpheus8 RF microneedling comes down to the skin issues at hand and your ultimate skin and anti-aging goals. While both treatments are suitable for a wide range of patients of various ages, Morpheus8 has often been considered a better treatment for those experiencing skin laxity, enlarged pores, blemishes, acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin imperfections. However, it’s important to note that Morpheus8’s more profound penetration ability may cause a bit more discomfort.
Which treatment produces the best results?
While some say that the results garnered from Secret RF and Morpheus8 are relatively comparable, there are differences in the results after both treatments. Ultimately, the best RF microneedling treatment is the one that fits within your budget and goals and works to improve the condition of your skin.
Secret RF and Morpheus8 use microneedles and radiofrequency energy to stimulate new collagen production for smoother, better-looking skin. But Morpheus 8 penetrates the skin deeper, allowing for more noticeable improvements. Also, the changes seen through the treatment tend to take effect sooner since fewer treatments are usually needed.
How many sessions of RF Microneedling do you need?
Different machines require different amounts of treatments to be performed to reach optimal results. For example, with Secret RF Microneedling, patients typically need between three and four treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Most people see noticeable improvement after the first two treatments; the full results are often seen around the third month.
With Morpheus8, fewer treatments are needed, usually two or three. However, just because fewer treatments are required doesn’t mean the results are compromised—they’re not. Like Secret RF Microneedling, the treatments must be spaced apart by about four to six weeks.
