Laser Hair Removal

No one loves extreme unwanted hair and pesky peach fuzz, especially on areas of the body where there should be minimal or no hair. And that’s where laser hair removal comes in. This tried-and-true hair reduction treatment works wonders for getting smooth, hairless skin.

Lasers

Shaving, waxing and tweezing all work, but they don't provide long-lasting results like laser hair removal.

It’s not quick, and it’s an investment. Still, hair removal can destroy the hair and its follicle entirely and permanently since laser hair removal works primarily on the hair and not the skin, which is why the skin is not affected.

If you want to be fuzz-free once and for all, laser hair removal is the way to go.

What is
Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a permanent hair removal procedure that kills the hair and the follicle. hair removal works best for diminishing unwanted hair on the face and body from head to toe.

The treatment, which requires several sessions to eradicate the hairs, uses heat to remove the hair within the follicle. The more heat the hair is exposed to during its growth cycle, the less hair grows from the follicle.

Although its name bears the word removal, laser hair removal is more of a reduction treatment than a removal one. The laser shortens the lifespan of the hair to destroy it selectively, but not every hair is permanently removed. However, laser hair removal reduces the thickness of the hair and the amount of hair that grows.

Today's lasers work faster and better and are less painful and safer.

Skin tone is essential for laser hair removal because very dark and very light skin tones can experience subpar results, burns, and pigmentation. In addition, if there isn’t a significant difference between the color of the hair and the skin color, the laser can’t distinguish between the two, and there is an increased risk of burns. But thanks to recent advances in science and technology, most laser hair removal devices work on almost all skin colors and types.

The procedure can be used on multiple parts of the body and face–pretty much anywhere where unwanted hair is a contender for the treatment.

How does it work?

Laser hair removal works by emitting light that converts to heat via a handheld device with a sapphire cooling tip that glides across the skin. Then, the heat selectively absorbs pigment in the root of the hair to destroy the root. This process creates permanent hair reduction.

Our Motus device utilizes Moveo Technology which does not require any numbing, providing a painless treatment in less time than traditional laser hair removal devices.

Different skin tones require different laser settings and lasers–not all skin colors respond to a single laser device. Darker and lighter skin types are more likely to burn, so they need special attention and an experienced provider. Darker skin types are also more inclined to hyperpigmentation.

White, grey, and light hair don’t respond well to hair removal. That’s because the laser cannot detect the color of the hair to destroy it effectively.

Although it works best on coarse, dense, and dark hair, we can now treat light and fine hair. Additionally, all skin types may now enjoy the benefits of laser hair removal utilizing Moveo Technology.

During your hair removal appointment, the device will be held up to each treatment area before moving on to the next one. The treatment can take a few minutes to an hour, depending on the location.

It isn’t painful, but it may feel somewhat uncomfortable. Each laser pass feels like a rubber band snapping on the skin. Afterward, the skin may be pink or red for a few hours.

Approximately five to 10 days after your treatment, the hair will shed, which signifies that the treated hair follicle is purging from the shaft. Hair re-growth will decrease over time and with repeated treatments. Permanent hair reduction is expected with future touch-up treatments as needed for any new hair growth that may develop.

Common FAQs

Waxing is fast and simple but still involves using hot wax and fabric strips. It can also be painful as hair is ripped out of the follicles. Ingrown hairs are common. Waxing is necessary every few weeks to keep the skin smooth and soft.

On the other hand, laser hair removal uses a laser to attach the root of the hair and its follicle to destroy it so the hair cannot grow back. From a long-term approach, laser hair removal is a more effective solution, and it is less painful than waxing. In addition, it doesn't result in redness, waxing bumps, and ingrown hairs.

Shaving is easy and inexpensive but needs to be done every few days to keep the skin smooth and hairless. Shaving is easy and affordable but needs to be done every few days to keep the skin soft and hairless. Razor bumps, rashes, redness, nicks, and cuts are common.

Laser hair removal works differently and doesn’t require taking down hair every few days. It also provides long-lasting results and hair-free skin for years.

The length of a laser hair removal session depends on the area being treated. Each site requires a different number of sessions. Some patients see improvement after just one treatment.

However, on average, about four to six sessions are needed every four weeks. So, laser hair removal can take anywhere from six to nine months to complete and for the results to be seen. In addition, maintenance sessions are sometimes needed to treat rogue hairs and areas that need a little more help.

Yes, a consultation before laser hair removal is helpful. We will discuss your medical history, medications, and the desired treatment area during the consultation. You will also be told if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal.

You will want to come to your laser hair removal appointment with your hair grown out as much as possible in the area of concern. Do not wax or tweeze the hairs in the area before your session.

After a laser hair removal session, keeping the area clean is essential. That means no body products, deodorant, makeup, and lotions. The treated areas also need to be kept from the sun and away from tanning beds and self-tanners; otherwise, the skin cannot be treated during the next appointment.

To treat red and swollen skin, you should ice the area and, if needed, apply a topical steroid, too.
